Welcome Little One

Another new great nephew was all smiles when he received his quilt recently.

I had fun with the quilting on this one. Using a disappearing ink marker, a ruler or whatever I had around the house that was the right size as this kitchen funnel was.  I drew different designs in each piece of fabric then quilted them using my walking foot.

Some of the fancy stitches on my sewing machine came into play as well.

The backing is a cozy piece of nursery print flannel with a band of blue chambray at the top and bottom.

My helpful assistant Jake held down the corner so we can all see the finished product.  Thank you, Jake.

Creative Chicks Banner rec'd May19 2011

Way back in 2011 I won this fabric banner from Creative Chicks at Play.

So big sister, Abby didn’t feel left out.  I used part of the banner to make this for her pink and purple bedroom.

Clothes Peg Bag

From Lollyquilts March 2012

Here I go again.  I found a great project to use three fat quarters of the Sugar Hill line by Tanya Whelan I won  recently from Lolly Quilts.   Thank you so much, Carla.

Lately in blogland there have been lots of great clothes peg bags for inspiration so I thought I’d give one a try.

Isn’t it pretty?  This one is going to be a gift but I swear I’m going to make one for myself.  I might even throw out my sad old pegs and buy new ones.  I really enjoyed making this.  Here is a link to a tutorial I used to help me figure out a pattern.

I’d like to also say thank you to Sharon at Vroom Quilts where I recently won these two cuties.

And to Julie at Intrepid Thread  again I was lucky and won this great book.  In fact, Julie has another giveaway up today so head on over.

From Intrepid Thread June 1 2012

More fabric and nine great patterns to try.   I appreciate your generosity very very much ladies.

I’ll leave you with a couple of pictures of some of the gang here chillin’ out on a hot June day.

Lucy & Ruby enjoying the deck.   And Jake sweet dreaming dog dreams.

Wishing you all a safe and happy weekend,

Blessed to be…..

The lovely Linda of LIVING THE DREAM  has done it again.  I just celebrated a ‘fifty something’ birthday and was blown away not only by her beautifully handmade gift and card (and other goodies) but by the blessing of her friendship.    Thank you, my dear friend.  The saying on this red work hanger couldn’t be more perfect.

I also received this package of treats from Leona for my birthday.  Please pay a visit to her wonderful blog.

AND not only that!  I was lucky enough to win Leona’s giveaway!

Blog Giveaway 1

Being a big fan of Jennifer’s books I can’t wait to read this one.

Blog Giveaway 2

Just started on March 1st Temecula Quilt Co.  is having another free quilt along called Blessings.    I will be able to use this Civil War charm pack and try out this beautiful variegated Superior King Tut thread.   Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Leona.

Also to help me celebrate my niece and SIL brought over this amazing cheesecake.  Let’s just say I’ll be on the exercise bike until my next birthday after eating most of this.

I have been sewing (honest).   A birthday gift is now done and on it’s way and a baby quilt is ready to be quilted.  Also this HST top is ready to be layered.    So it hasn’t all been presents and cake.

Thanks for stopping by on this windy and snowy (for us) Saturday.  My thoughts and prayers go out to all those effected by the tornadoes in the United States.

God bless,

Doll Quilts and Gifts

100_5489     I can now show the two doll quilts I made recently as one was a gift and one was for me.   The pattern is from Kathleen Tracy’s website  Country Lane Quilts.   It’s a free pattern along with a few others there.  I’ve been admiring doll quilts on other blogs and can certainly see how they can become addictive .  These were fast and fun to make.  I machine quilted one and hand quilted the other.

Here is mine on display with a raggedy doll who has been waiting a very long time for a quilt of her own.

Yesterday I needed a quick gift so I made this little bag which holds a lavender sachet.  I received the one in the bottom photo from Linda and stole her idea (she said it was okay).  She also sent the French calendar which is now gracing my sewing room shelf.

And did anyone notice that Santa had to add a few more reindeer to pull his sleigh this year?  It was because of  Linda.   My amazing friend from Living The Dream  in France sent me so many beautiful gifts that the regulars, Rudolph and his gang were not enough.   As well as the calendar and sachet she sent all these goodies…..

AND made me this quilt!!!!!!

Thank you from the very bottom of my heart, Linda.  We all can’t wait to see what I sent you IF IT EVER ARRIVES!!!!     Poor Linda.

Over the holidays I was lucky and won a giveaway from Vreni at her blog Oops-Lah.   It is a rolie-polie of Christmas Candy  by Riley Blake - yummy.   It’s in the mail and I can’t wait to receive it.  Thanks very much, Vreni for your kindness and  generosity.   P1000920

My best wishes to all of you  and the Happy of New Year too!

My Singer & Pattern Wins

The SINGER brand is celebrating its 160th anniversary!  You can add your Singer’s story here on their website at My Singer Story.  There are over 1,500 wonderful stories already.  You can also register your pre-1970 Singer and receive a certificate dating it for you after you enter your serial number.

My Singer was gifted to me by my aunt a few years ago. Her name (the machine not my aunts, silly) is ‘Purdy’ thanks to Pat over at All Decked Out.  It is a 1966 Style Mate Zig-Zag Model #348.   My aunt bought her brand spanking’ new.   It has all the accessories and a beautiful solid wood carrying case.

There are nine stitch pattern “Fashion Discs” that you can put into the top as well as two needle stitching capacity.

I hope you enjoyed meeting Purdy.  Do you have a Singer story to tell?

There is absolutely no excuse for me not to make some fabulous gifts for Christmas.  I won this fun paper piecing pattern from Lily’s Quilts.

This adorable pattern is by Kerry at  verykerryberry.  You can find her patterns for sale here at her Etsy shop

I was also one of the lucky pattern winners over at Hugs from Helen.   Helen’s patterns can be purchased here.

Isn’t this the cutest candle mat! It’s from a collection of patterns called Gran’s Christmas Table.

I hope you’ve got some wonderful gift ideas brewing in your heads because it’s time to get them started!

Thanks for stopping by and happy stitching,

Catching Up

It’s been a busy spring here on my Sideroad.  If I could either stitch or blog while on the lawn tractor cutting grass I’d be well ahead of the game but no can do.  Family health issues, visitors and DH off to a new job have kept me hopping.

From Kathleen Tracy April 2011

First I'd like to thank author and quilter Kathleen Tracy, A Sentimental Quilter for the lovely fqs that I won from her giveaway. Kathleen’s amazing miniature quilts have inspired me to give one a try. I now have a whole new appreciation of miniatures!

I have been able to get some gifts made this spring.  This reversible bag is a free pattern from All People Quilt

Rev. Bag

The bag and this 17”x17” quilt with a Bronwyn Hayes stitchery took a six week journey and arrived late for Linda’s birthday in France.

I sent this table topper home with my aunts who were here visiting from Western Canada. My mother’s sisters, both 80ish who never married and are still lovingly referred to in the family as “the girls”. The pattern is from a great tutorial on Sherri’s blog, A Quilting Life.  Thanks Sherri, I will be making more of these.  I used a charm pack of Patisserie from Fig Tree Quilts and love the look with the ricrac.

I’m almost embarrassed by how lucky I have been at many of the amazingly generous giveaways in blogland.  I’d like to say a great big thanks to Kristen from So Happy to Sew for these Alhambra & Girly Girl Art Gallery fqs:

And to Cindy at Live a Colourful Life for these – Sherbet Pips! I shared one of them with a special friend who had a bit of Pips yardage to trade.  Now we can both make something fun.

From Colorful Life May 2011

A big thank you for stopping by my dear blog friends.  My thoughts and prayers go out to those of you struggling with health issues and to those who have been affected by tornados and floods.
